Boston is my hometown and I was thrilled when FlatoutBread invited me to create a few recipes, Boston style, with their amazing products. Last month I create the Lobster Roll, and I thought I would take a trip to the North End this time. The North End in Boston is known for Italian food and pizza is obviously a hit. I’ve 2 tween girls who love pizza (who doesn’t) and will eat anything on it. I decided to use this as my inspiration for this recipe.
I’m usually a “make everything from scratch kinda girl” but to save my sanity I’m not averse to reaching out to products I trust to fill in the gap for those crazy soccer days or band practice nights. I’m grateful to find recipes on the back of the FlatoutBread in case I run out of ideas (it has been known to happen). A bonus is the tips you can find there, and anyone who says they don’t need tips, is lying.
In case you were wondering whether FlatoutBread is in your area, you can use the Flatout Store Locator at FlatoutFinder.com and while there snag a $1 off coupon. Admittedly it was pretty overwhelming to find FlatoutBread exactly in the store, so I’ll make it easy and tell you: check out the Deli or Bread section.
Now about that recipe, I obviously gave a Mommy Niri spin to it (spicy chicken anyone???) but if you can’t take the heat, feel free to omit or add a topping of your choice. Since the flatbread is thin, make sure to eith precook your topping or slice thin for even cooking
Boston North End Pizza
Ingredients
1 package Flatout Italian FlatBread
1/2 cup tomato sauce (I used homemade but feel free to buy yours)
4-8 slices of fresh mozzarella (depending on preference)
pre-cooked spicy chicken
4-5 fresh basil leaves
olive oil for brushing
cornmeal for sprinkling on baking sheet
Salt
Fresh black pepper
Directions:
Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Sprinkle cornmeal on baking sheet. Lightly brush flatbread with olive oil (feel free to omit this step if your tomato sauce is less liquid like). Spread the tomato sauce over flatbread. Arrange mozzarella, chicken, and basil leaves on flatbread. Sprinkle a bit of salt and black pepper. Bake for 7-10 minutes based on your oven’s temperature adjust accordingly.
